Ah, February. January is behind us and love is in the air. And the air is never fresher or more romantic than it is here in the beautiful White Mountains. While you can certainly come to our neck of the woods for romance anytime, why not plan a Valentine’s date for you and your sweetheart or a Galentine’s getaway for a few girlfriends? We have a few ideas we think you’ll like…

Crisp Hikes and Walks

Our area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts during all seasons. Here are some top choices: 

The Flume Gorge Loop

The Flume Gorge Trail is a 2-mile loop starting at the check-in booths located in front of the Flume Building (which is closed in the off season). You’ll see beautiful waterfalls, historic covered bridges, stunning mountain sights, and more.

The Lincoln Woods Trail

At just under 10 miles roundtrip, this moderate trail provides the perfect opportunity for skiing, snowshoeing as well as hiking and walking. During the winter months, adventurers promote using spikes to fully enjoy time there to the fullest. 

The Mount Pemigewasset Trail

This trail is shorter distance-wise at just over three miles roundtrip. It’s harder than The Lincoln Woods Trail, so it’s ideal for people who want a bit more of an athletic experience. You can explore it on snowshoes in about two hours! 

Precious Picnics

When it comes to picnic supplies you can take two paths: do-it-yourself or do-it-up-right! 

If you’re interested in a DIY picnic, you can gather delicious items from a nearby grocer like Price Chopper in Lincoln (conveniently right next to RiverWalk), the Purple Tomato in Lincoln (on the same road as RiverWalk) or Fadden’s General Store in nearby North Woodstock. And if you’re more interested in a more pampered approach, you could let La Vista provide your picnic essentials. They will put together a picnic lunch if arranged in advance as they are not open for lunch. We recommend the Cheese and Charcuterie Plate featuring assorted meats and cheeses, apple red chili chutney, pickled carrots and cauliflower, house-made hummus, almonds and toasted sourdough bread. You could also order wood-fired pizzas to-go during their regular dinner time hours which are Thursday through Tuesday from 5-9pm (closed on Wednesdays).

Pro-tip: You can also grab a bottle of wine from the Seven Birches Winery (inside RiverWalk) or some local beer from One Love Brewery in Lincoln (across from RiverWalk) to top off your basket.

Have Decadent Dining Moments in Your Room

Whether you choose to start your date in the morning with a mimosa and breakfast in your fully-equipped kitchen, have lunch with some of Seven Birches Winery’s wine while bundled up together on the patio with enviable views, or enjoy a La Vista dessert in bed or bath at the end of a long, activity-filled day, there’s a lot to love. 

Speaking of desserts, have you tried the Chocolate Amaretto Cake or the Tiramisu? They aren’t to be missed… 

Sit Back, Soak and Relax

At RiverWalk we are lucky enough to have an outdoor hot tub shaped like a half-moon and can be enjoyed quite literally under the moon (it’s open till 10pm)! Discuss your day in utter relaxation. Doesn’t that sound like magic?

Are you seeking a more intimate experience? Log into your Netflix or borrow a DVD and player from the front desk to enjoy in front of the fireplace, under a cozy blanket right in the comfort of your own suite. 

Take Your Love to the Tracks

The train tracks that is! In our region there’s a special train-based date you can take advantage of. Until May you can experience a depot-driven train-inspired meal and from May on you can actually ride the rails of the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train while taking a two-hour tour and enjoying a five-course meal! 

Buy your tickets now and give them to your Valentine’s Day sweetie in advance as a present they’ll get to look forward to and certainly never forget! 

Real Deal Relaxation

There’s nothing like a couples’ massage to help you unwind and reconnect. Luckily, you can do that on-site at Solstice North Day Spa in 30, 60 and 90 minute intervals.

A Jean's Playhouse production is a dynamite date idea and if you’re in our corner of the world this February, you can see The North Country Comedy Series February Vacation Comedy on Friday, February 23, or the Wooden Horse Concert The Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young as well as America! on Saturday, February 24.
